Volunteer Opportunities - Ages 8+

Come spend the evening with family and friends and help create native bee habitat at Sandstone Ranch. This is a family-friendly event for ages 8+. We'll learn about native bees from Cynthia and Tracy of the Bee Chicas, local pollinator educators (beechicas.com). Cynthia and Tracy will use pictures and hands on tools to teach us about some of Colorado's 900+ species of native bees. We'll create "bee walls" or nesting habitat for various bee species and learn about how to orient the walls in the landscape. Some of the bee walls will go on Longmont open space and some will be available for volunteers to take home to start their own bee wall habitat. We'll conclude with a hot dog cook out sponsored by Your Butcher Frank. Meet at the large shelter (E2) south of the soccer fields, off of Sandstone Drive. (Map: https://www.longmontcolorado.gov/home/showdocument?id=3164) CLOSE-TOED SHOES ARE REQUIRED FOR EVERYONE BECAUSE WE WILL BE AROUND DRILLS. The trees used to create the bee walls were thinned from a forested area of Sandstone Ranch by some very hard working volunteers from the Crispin Porter + Bogusky Group during the "Thin Trees for Wildlife & Native Bees" volunteer event on Sept. 13th, 2019.
